BIOGRAPHY

Born to a family of musicians in Kiev, Ukraine, clarinetist Vladimir Pavtchinskii has performed in venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, Bozar and Flagey in Brussels, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam,  Geneva Victoria Hall, Tonhalle in Zürich, Gulbenkian Foundation and CCB in Lisbon, Casa da Musica in Porto, Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall in London, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Luzern KKL, Beethovenhalle Bonn, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, etc. Working with leading conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Alexander Joel, Michel Tabachnik, Jun Markl, Lawrence Foster, Giancarlo Guerrero, Gerd Albrecht, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Lawrence Renes, David Geringas, Heinz Holliger, Junichi Hirokami, Tomas Vasary, Michael Schoenwandt,  Jean-Sébastian Béreau, Roberto Benzi, Sir Neville Marriner, Kristjan Järvi, Yuri Temirkanov, Stéphane Denéve, Olivier Ochanine, Mikhail Pletnev and Teodor Currentzis.

He has been sponsored by the Gulbenkian Fundation, Lisbon and Bruno Schuler-Stiftung, Zurich. Mr. Pavtchinskii has recorded for Radio Swiss Classic, Klara Klassieke Radio Cultuur and RDP Antena 2 Portugal.

In 2000, after becoming a Portuguese citizen, he joined the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra with whom he performed at many renowned international music festivals.

In 2004, Mr. Pavtchinskii was awarded the Grand Prix of the International Competition of the Association of “Arts and Education in the 21st Century” and in September of the same year, he received 3rd prize at the “Madeira-Music” International Clarinet Competition, between more than 120 candidates. In 2005, he was awarded the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Grant and in 2007 he not only won the “José Augusto Alegria International Clarinet Prize” but later also received 2nd prize at the “Terras La-Salette International Woodwind Competition”. 

Being a soloist himself, he has performed M. Bruch double concerto with the Madeira Classical Orchestra in Portugal, the W. A. Mozart clarinet concerto with the Sun Symphony Orchestra in Vietnam, the Carl Nielsen clarinet concerto with the Carlsbad Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic and, the Aaron Copland clarinet concerto with the Hulencourt Soloists Chamber Orchestra in Brussels under the direction of the renowned violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair, a performance which received excellent reviews.

In 2009, Mr. Pavtchinskii was invited to serve as a juror for the Buffet Crampon’s Benelux Clarinet Competition in Belgium, in 2013 joined as a juror the International Musical Forum, "21st Century Art Competition" in Portugal where he also gave clarinet masterclasses. In 2019, served also as a juror for the Macao Clarinetasia International Clarinet Competition.

Mr. Pavtchinskii starts playing the clarinet with Robert Bramley and Francisco Loreto. Later, he graduated from the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra (Lisbon) under direction of Nuno Silva and Etienne Lamaison, continuing his studies at the “Royal College of Music” (Stockholm) under the orientation of Hermann Stefansson. In 2007, he earned his Soloist Diploma at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste under the direction of Elmar Schmid and, later, completed his Master’s degree in Chamber Music and a post-Master's Specialist degree in clarinet performance with Eddy Vanoosthuyse at the Leuven Lemmensinstituut (Belgium). He then received further artistic support from Klaus Tunemann and Pascal Moragues.

Mr. Pavtchinskii is a very active solo, chamber and orchestral musician. From 2015 until 2017 he was artistically engaged with the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and Hulencourt Festival in Brussels where he has worked on many occasions together with Guy Braunstein, former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2018, Mr. Pavtchinskii was appointed Principal Clarinet with the newly founded Sun Symphony Orchestra, functioning under the umbrella of the prestigious Sun Group, Vietnam. He also collaborates with the Belgian National Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Macao Symphony Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
